Design Combus Oy (DCombus) has started selling the Iris 440 modem, which is a new generation SHDSL modem offering 22.8 Mbps full-duplex connection in copper access networks.

Especially in corporate applications broadband connections markets require all the time higher speeds with symmetrical, full-duplex access between the remote site and the network. SHDSL technology has great benefits for operators and internet service providers (ISPs) building the last mile access for their customers.

"Iris 440 SHDSL bundles four copper pairs offering superior speed vs. reach characteristics. The speed and operation distance trade-offs available with Iris 440, was not feasible earlier in copper access networks", says Markku Lindell, CEO, Design Combus Oy.

Iris 440 is a high-speed SHDSL modem with four Ethernet ports. The maximum speed using 4-pair copper is 22.8 Mbps full-duplex (up- and download).

The device has 4-port 10/100M Ethernet switch and versatile management, control and configuration features. Application areas include WAN/LAN/VLAN access networks and multi-user VoIP due to its low latencies and traffic prioritizing. Iris 440 can be configured as CO (Central Office) or RT (Remote Terminal) device enabling point to point connections.
