Design Combus Oy has introduced a new modem onto the market that allows teleoperators and broadband service providers to build record high-speed Ethernet connections over a copper network.

The DCombus Iris440-HS facilitates the introduction of 44 Mbps on customer connections, and the speed is the same in both directions. This makes the Iris440-HS an outstanding tool, particularly for corporate broadband connections.

Although fibre connections are being built in earnest, they are only available to a small proportion of SMEs. This is the case in Finland as well as in many other countries. "Using the Ethernet-over-Copper connection at 44 Mbps enables broadband providers to offer improved services for wider range of customers in the area."

In practice, a copper connection is available to all companies and households. The DCombus Iris440-HS makes it possible to offer a wider range of customers the kinds of speeds over copper that were earlier only possible using fibre technology. Nebula Oy's technical director Rauli Arjatsalo and CEO Markku Lindell state that unlike ADSL technology, the modem is based on symmetrical technology and so the user has a high upload speed to the network.

Nebula Oy is among the first companies to expand its range of services using the Iris440-HS.

The Iris440-HS is a modem that applies SHDSL technology to connect an Ethernet network over copper cables. One copper pair facilitates 11 Mbps, two pairs 22 Mbps and four pairs, 44 Mbps. The equipment can be configured for the alternative speeds.
